Legislation

Legislation, that is the making of laws by the British or colonial Parliaments, or by colonial governors and their councils, provided an importance source of law for the colonies of the British empire. Such legislation proceeded with different kinds of legal justification and authority for different colonies. Also, some legislation, especially those produced by the British Parliament, was imperial, as in meant for the entire empire, whereas other legislation was specific to particuar colonies. We aim to provide a list of such key statutes, organised according to the colony which they applied to.
